A visual history of the personal watercraft
To celebrate the launch of the FUNBOY FUN SKI, we’re throwing down a short history of the Personal Watercraft:
Because it's not summer if you aren’t photographed on one.
Originally developed in Europe during the 1950's, the first personal watercraft were known as waterscooters. While amazing, they weren’t very popular and never reached commercial viability.
The stand-up personal watercraft was first introduced in the US in 1973 by Kawasaki under the Jet Ski brand name. The stand-up PWC soon gave way to the sit down variants of today.
Sit-down personal watercraft (like the new FUN SKI!) have been popularized by brands including the Bombardier Sea-Doo, the Yamaha Waverunner, and the Kawasaki Jet Ski.
Things have gone pretty cray in the personal watercraft scene. Today you can cruise at 70 MPH or get towed into a massive wave surfing behind one!
In 2018, FUNBOY releases the full-size FUN SKI personal watercraft style pool float, designed for those who like things extra.
